Parking

Visitors to Oakland may take advantage of free parking on a first-come, first-served basis. To avoid receiving a parking citation, park in a legal parking stall designated by parallel lines on both sides of your vehicle. Please allow adequate time to find a parking space before your class begins. To view available parking lots, visit https://map.concept3d.com/?id=566#!ce/6599?ct/7836

A snow emergency may be declared when 3 or more inches of snow have fallen or are forecast to fall on campus, as reported by the National Weather Service and/or other law enforcement weather resources. For snow emergency procedures, please visit https://oupolice.com/em/snow-emergencies/

Driving or parking on grass or sidewalks is prohibited. To learn more about parking at Oakland University, visit https://oupolice.com/parking.

Food & Beverages

Food & Beverages are permitted in the classroom unless otherwise indicated by the instructor. Students are required to clean up after themselves.

Smoking, Tobacco, Drugs, and Other Alcohol Products

Smoking and the use of tobacco is prohibited on all Oakland campuses and grounds, and in all university owned or operated buildings and vehicles.

No person shall possess, use, distribute, sell, or manufacture illegal drugs, narcotics or controlled substances on the campus, except as permitted by law.

Pursuant to ordinance 5.01, a person who is less than 21 years of age shall not possess or consume any alcoholic beverage on the campus.

Weapons

Pursuant to ordinance 7.02, no person shall possess a pistol or any other firearm, dangerous weapon, weapon, explosive or incendiary device on the campus. The provisions of this ordinance shall not be deemed to prohibit law enforcement officers from bearing arms or law enforcement equipment on the campus.

Personal Safety

Oakland was recently ranked the second safest campus in the United States. As in any community setting, individuals must make choices that maximize their personal safety and security. Therefore, the Oakland University Police Department (OUPD) offers many safety tips at https://oupolice.com/safety/.

OUPD maintains an extensive network of nearly 200 emergency phones located at strategic places around main campus. These phones (when activated) have a direct connection to our 911 Communications Center. Crimes in progress, medical emergencies, fires and other emergencies can be reported by pushing the "Help" button on the face of the phone. Once the information is gathered, emergency response time is often as little as 90 seconds.

If at any time you do not feel safe while walking on campus, please call the OUPD at (248) 370-3331 to request a SAFEwalk escort. When you request a SAFEwalk escort, a police officer or police service aide will be dispatched to the area to ensure that you safely walk to your destination on campus.

Emergency Preparedness

If an emergency arises on campus, call the OUPD at 911 or (248) 370-3331. Save this number in your phone, and put it in an easy-to-find spot in your contacts.

In the event of a threat to campus, OUPD will notify the community via the emergency notification system. Register for text alerts by texting OUPD to 888777. Ensure that at least one mobile device is on in class to receive emergency notifications.

The instructor of your class is not responsible for your personal safety, so therefore it is the responsibility of each student to understand the evacuation and “lockdown” guidelines to follow when an emergency is declared. Please familiarize yourself with the emergency procedures at https://oupolice.com/em.

The OUPD strongly encourages all visitors to review the seven-minute Run, Hide, Fight video at https://oupolice.com/em/activeshooter/ prior to arriving on campus.
